The next step is to hand-spin the carded fleece, using our spinning wheels. Spinning wheels come in a variety of styles and shapes, and you can spin from very fine lace weight all the way to chunky. Typically, we will spin two bobbins of fibre, then ply the two strands together on a third bobbin, which produces a stable and untwisted yarn. Then it’s skeined off, and twisted into a skein for sale or for use in a knitting or weaving project.

Some of our fleeces go through steps 1-4 in a local fibre mill, since we have more fleece than we can process by hand. All of our skeins of yarn are marked as either “hand-spun” or “mill-spun”, depending on how they were processed.
